At Kenerator, our story started with a spark—literally. But more than that, it started with a boy, his dad, and a nickname that would become a lifelong mission.
A Father, A Son, and a Love for Generators
Growing up, Ken Goodrich was fascinated by his dad’s ability to fix anything, especially generators. Watching him work was like witnessing magic—machines that seemed lifeless would suddenly roar back to life with a puff of smoke and a hum of electricity.
After every successful repair, his dad would turn to him with a grin, high-five him, and say:
“You’re the Kenerator!”
The name stuck. And so did Ken’s fascination with power.
The Science Fair Project That Sparked a Dream
Determined to prove himself, Ken set out to build his own miniature power grid for his school’s science fair. With nothing but a Cub Scout knife, a little creativity, and a whole lot of determination, he got to work:
- Mesquite twigs became power poles
- Copper wires connected the grid
- And when the hand-crank spun, the porch light on his tiny house flickered to life
Ken was on top of the world. Until his teacher, Mr. Cutler, took one look and shut him down.
“I can tell your daddy built this. I’m giving you an F.”
Ken was crushed—but not defeated. He stood his ground and made a promise:
“Just wait! One day, everyone’s going to call me the Kenerator!”
Turning a Childhood Nickname into a Mission
Fast forward a few decades, and that childhood nickname has become a legacy.
